The Sun Devil football program announced the hiring of Glenn Thomas as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach on Monday. The hiring comes just days after Zak Hill resigned from the position in the midst of an ongoing NCAA investigation.

Thomas spent a handful of seasons as an offensive assistant and quarterbacks coach with the Atlanta Falcons. NFL quarterback Matt Ryan produced some of his most successful seasons under Thomas.

“I am beyond fired up and humbled to be a part of a top-tier program at a top-tier University,” Thomas said in a press release. “A great foundation has been laid at ASU and I am proud to be able to help build upon that.”

After his stint in the NFL, Thomas spent time at Temple and Baylor before he landed at UNLV in 2020.

“He is known around football circles for his expertise in quarterback play, with quarterback mechanics and getting them to play at their optimum level,” head coach Herm Edwards said in a press release. “His work with Matt Ryan in Atlanta speaks for itself as Matt enjoyed the best years of his career under Glenn.”

Despite his speciality with quarterbacks, the UNLV rushing attack put up historic numbers over the last two seasons.

Thomas’ hire is now the fourth hiring or promotion by ASU in the last two weeks. ASU hired former NFL head coach Brian Billick to its staff last week. Billick is an offensive analyst and special advisor to Edwards.

Billick said he is familiar with Thomas and he is confident he will help develop the offense this coming season.

“His broad-based experiences gleaned from the NFL and from his college work from Temple to Baylor to UNLV, make him ideally suited to work with the student-athletes in our quarterback room and to coordinate our offense at ASU,” Billick said in a press release.
