Surprise, surprise! The Phoenix Suns did not, in fact, save their entire season by simply trading for Nick Richards. As much as the move upgrades Phoenix's brutal center rotation, he alone was never going to salvage this mess. There's a reason Jimmy Butler trades continue to be the talk of the town and the entire league.
To be clear: Unless the Suns fix what appears to be broken internally, no realistic trade will save them, and that includes any of the Jimmy Butler trades that are being bandied about. It's not just desperate, wishful thinking from a weary fanbase, of course; ESPN's Brian Windhorst has been clear that Butler is hellbent on forcing his way to Phoenix.
