Arizona Finds Its Place In the College Football World

Saturday’s game proved that the Colorado Buffaloes while, really bad, are clearly better than the Arizona Wildcats.

Even when the Cats were down 3-0 in the second quarter, it felt like there was a clear talent disparity in play.

In what was essentially a game where neither team looked to score in the first half, with a few exceptions, it also showcased that these might be the two worst power five teams in the country.

Before we get to Arizona, it’s important to touch on Karl Dorrell and Colorado.

Any head coach who is directing one of the worst teams in the nation and is going against the worst team and kicks a field goal from the 1 yard line on fourth and goal sets the tone for his team game in and game out.

Switching over to Arizona, I certainly am not going to beat up Jedd Fisch too much for his coaching this year. This team has next to no talent, but the fascination with Gunner Cruz is odd as he has been given way more leeway than any other quarterback.

When more horizontal than vertical play calls are executed, that is playing not to lose. I’m also not going to necessarily blame Fisch for this as the playbook seems to be more open with Jordan McCloud and Will Plummer, but this offense has digressed this season with no identity established.

It was announced shortly after the game that Cruz is most likely done for the season, which means more time for sophomore quarterback Will Plummer.

Regarding Plummer, he needs to be the starter. He most likely isn’t the answer but at least he attempts to throw the ball down field and is far more decisive in the pocket.

One group that does deserve special kudos is the defense, as they have battled all season and have an identity but they just get worn down. Defensive coordinator Don Brown came in with a great reputation and has done nothing to dispel that..

This is simple, however: Arizona football is the least talented team in power five. By a good margin. Now, this team is even worse than anyone thought, but if you were a believer of Fisch before the season or you weren’t: there is no reason your mind should be changed
