One of the greatest concerns heading into a Monday Night Football matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers was the Arizona Cardinals' inability to stop the run. The Cardinals’ run defense ranked 29th in yards allowed per game (153), tied for 23rd in yards allowed per carry (4.7) and tied for 29th in rushing TDs allowed (8).
Chargers running back JK Dobbins entered the game sixth in the NFL in rushing yards, and the duo of coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman had made it clear that running the football was priorities No. 1-3 for the offense.
