Coyotes hockey operations department has more runway to finish job it started in 2020

In the middle of the 2018-19 season, St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong approached first-year assistant GM Bill Armstrong with a plan. He wanted to re-sign key members of the hockey operations staff.
"We had a championship caliber team and we were sitting in dead last place at the new year," the Coyotes GM said.
The plan may have raised eyebrows at the time, but it gained credibility when the Blues engineered one of the best runs in NHL history by going from last place in the NHL standings to the franchise's only Stanley Cup parade. The lesson was instructive and impactful for Bill Armstrong.
