Like these articles.
Good luck to JJ Moser. I’ve never been an advocate of “ poly sporting” ( ha)
I did play more than one and where I came from ( Indiana) coaches and journalists always talked about the dangers of playing just one sport.
Some mention “ burnout” whatever that is or I remember a Cardinal baseball scout saying that playing more than one sport, developed more and different muscle groups and that you’d wear out faster if you played one sport year around.
I just don’t agree with any of that. If you really have a passion for one sport, play one sport. I was lucky enough to dedicate myself to a sport where it’s as exciting on the first day of the 46th year of training as the 1st of the 1st. I’d imagine there are numbers who feel the same in all sports
Hope they are not forced to be multi sport athletes if they prefer not to be.
Good luck JJ.

What is the career projection for him, Craig? Are they anticipating first, second, or third pairing guy? Or are all bets off with this kid?

I’m not sure that they want to put a ceiling on him just yet, but they hope that he is a top-4 option. His defensive & skating skills could allow him to protect a more offensive defenseman, but he needs to add more bulk and his offense is just emerging over the past year-plus so we’ll see.

I think his parents wanted him to sample sports early on to see what he liked and then he chose hockey and focused on it. Whatever works for a kid…

And they got him with the pick acquired for taking on Andrew Ladd. Thanks Isles! This could turn into a “getting Crouse for taking Bolland” level of thievery.

I went to all the rookie tournament games and JJ Moser and Kolochonek (sp??) were the two players that I had no preconceived notion on that I really noticed. Moser’s skating and “jump” really caught my attention. Early yet but there is a possibility that he will be on those steal of the draft posts in a few years.

Great article Craig, I love these dives into player backgrounds and hearing stories from the people who know them. JJ seems like a good kid with his head screwed on right.

I would be happy with a defensive defenseman who turns into something like Jossi or Hammer, not a problem at all……They have raised the cup, maybe he can too.

Have confidence in GMBA and the scouting staff. Pumped for the trading deadline so we can pick up more picks. Chychrun needs to go to a team that could be in the lottery in 22 or 23. So far it looks like they have hit on Guenther and Moser. Looking forward to the future.
