'He's a gamer': Diamondbacks prospect Gino Groover has plenty of believers

Minor-league players do not often receive performance bonuses based on how they perform in one game.
But, on Aug. 6, 2024, Diamondbacks prospect Gino Groover pocketed $400 cash from an unlikely source: D-backs right-hander Merrill Kelly.
On that day, Kelly joined the High-A Hillsboro Hops on a rehab assignment. It was the final step in his four-month recovery from a shoulder injury. He came bearing gifts.
"I've got 1,000 dollars," Kelly told Hillsboro manager Javier Colina in his office before the game.
"What are you talking about?" Colina, a long-time friend of Kelly, replied.
