Now entering its 27th season as the home of the Diamondbacks, Chase Field is not what it used to be. The roof can no longer be opened and closed with people in the building. The original out-of-town scoreboards are no longer functional. The initial shine from when the venue first opened in 1998 has long worn off. As the decades have turned, the ballpark has largely stayed the same.
With the Diamondbacks' lease on the building set to expire after the 2027 season, their future home is in flux. They would prefer to stay put at Chase Field and renovate it, but they have been unsuccessful in securing public funding to assist with what they estimate to be a $400-500 million project.
