Historic night for Utah, NHL held different meaning for Coyotes fans

As the puck dropped on the 2024-25 NHL season Tuesday night, I found that for the first time in nearly 20 years, I didn’t feel excited.
I didn’t feel happy, I didn’t feel hopeful and I didn’t feel giddy.
I just felt sad.
The experience of losing an NHL team has been an emotional rollercoaster. Most days, I can push it out of my mind. Opening night was not one of those times.
There are so many mixed emotions. I’m happy for the fans in Utah. I’m happy for the players, management and staff who finally get to be treated the right way by an ownership group. An ownership group that not only cares, but one that’s been more public in six months than the Meruelo group was in five years.
