I’ve been thinking a lot about a conversation I had with Dick Tomey in 1995.
It was early in fall camp, and, as the Arizona Wildcats football beat writer for the Arizona Daily Star at the time, I had been working on creating content for the newspaper’s special football section that would run the Sunday before the season-opener.
I was thinking about writing about how and why the Wildcats had been recently dominant over Arizona State. The Sun Devils had the bigger reputation, the larger city, and the shinier facilities, boosted by the NFL’s Cardinals move to Tempe in 1988.
