Juan Guerra's Phoenix Rising side fail to hold on in 2-1 loss

Phoenix Rising faced serious questions coming into tonight’s match.

Would we see the club had conjured up a dominant 2-0 victory on the road against Monterey Bay, or the one that wilted in a lackluster effort against Sacramento?

It didn’t start well at Manuel Arteaga was sent off in the 13th minute. Yet, somehow, someway, Rising scored an improbable short hand goal as Danny Trejo netted in the 20th minute.

From there, Rising continued to press while also dealing with the questions that San Antonio had to answer. The hosts almost doubled their advantage in the 65th minute when the goalscorer himself almost tapped in from point blank range.

Though it seemed like they would bend but not break, Rising’s defence finally gave way to a San Antonio equalizer in the 86th minute. Alas, the nail in the coffin came off a Rising free kick that San Antonio countered upon. The Texas squad took advantage of Rocco Rios Novo high off his line to put the ball in the back of the net in stoppage time.
