After a weekend league collapse to Detroit City, Patrick Rakovsky stepped up as the midweek Open Cup hero to book Phoenix Rising’s place in the fourth round. Jearl Margaritha’s first half goal was cancelled out after Rémi Cabral’s red card, but Rising prevailed in a shootout to knock off FC Tulsa and set up a home match against Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer.
