Phoenix Rising record their first loss of the season as they fall 3-0 to San Diego Loyal in their 2nd match of the 2023 USL Championship season.

Rising played a controlled game throughout the first half. Yet, they were undone by a wayward pass in the waning minutes of the 1st half which Loyal’s Evan Conway capitalized on. While there were a handful of chances early in the second half, Rising couldn’t get back into the game. New San Diego signing Ronaldo Damus extended Loyal’s advantage in one of his first meaningful involvements during the match. Rising’s defense looked further stressed towards the end of the game as Blake Bodily completed the Loyal counter-attack by knocking in the final goal of the match.
