Ketel Marte’s situation has crossed a line.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are in the middle of a playoff race, and the way this situation unfolded is simply unacceptable. But this isn’t ONLY about Ketel Marte. It raises a much bigger question about the standards being set by Torey Lovullo and Mike Hazen and whether those standards are ultimately hurting the Diamondbacks.

Lovullo has admitted he felt betrayed by Marte’s absence, while the organization has continued to emphasize understanding and moving forward. But where is the line between supporting a star player and holding everyone accountable?

And here’s the uncomfortable part: every Diamondbacks fan can be right in this argument.

If you believe the Diamondbacks should support Marte and focus on getting their star back on the field, you’re right.

If you believe Torey Lovullo and Mike Hazen have created standards that have hurt this team, there’s an argument for that too.

This is why the Marte situation is about much more than one player. It’s about accountability, leadership, clubhouse culture and what the Arizona Diamondbacks should stand for as they try to get back to the postseason.
