There will be a lot of roster issues to focus on at Arizona’s media day tomorrow but here are some of the key roster story lines to follow:
The two best players on the team are sophomores Azuolas Tubelis and Benn Mathurin.
1. Will both be ready to take on that leadership role? That’s the question on everyone’s mind and could indicate how far this team will go. Making things more interesting, is that both players couldn’t be more different. Tubelis isn’t a great pro prospect but as a college big man he is too skilled and physical for most defenders.
Mathurin isn’t the finished product that Tubelis is but he has far more upside as a Three and D who projects as a first round pick.
But the man of the hour will be another sophomore in Kerr Kriisa. And not just because he shares a name with Arizona’s favorite son.
2.Is Kerr Ready to take the reins for Point Guard U? Kriisa is the only point guard on the roster, but with his shooting, passing and flair he seems to be a guy who is going to be a good fit in a more wide open free flowing offense. Tommy Lloyd has confirmed as much.
3.Can junior center Christian Koloko catch the ball and is the hype around his shooting range legitimate? We’ve all seen the instagram videos of Koloko drilling three pointers but that’s a drastically different situation than knocking down three pointers in live games. Ben Simmons says hi.
4.Has sophomore wing Dalen Terry put on enough muscle to guard big men? Dalen Terry is a guy with a lot of talent but needs to put on some real muscle. A lot of Tommy Lloyd’s style relies on position less basketball and getting the best players on court. It’s going to be imperative for Terry to be able to guard bigger players and much of that will rely on how hard he’s worked in the weight room this offseason.
5. When will Pelle Larsson be healthy? The Utah transfer is a great shooter and a versatile athlete who figures to be effective in a wide open movement oriented offense. When will his foot be fully healthy? This team needs him
