Random Musings and Score Prediction:
Oregon wide receiver Johnny Johnson is indicative of everything that is wrong with the Arizona Football program. Johnson was born and raised for most of his childhood in Tucson but wasn’t viewed as “Arizona Good” by ex-UA football coach Rich Rodriguez.
Four years later Johnson is an all conference player at a position that Arizona is sorely lacking in.
A good rule of thumb for any Arizona staff, if Oregon views a local Tucson kid as good enough to play up in Eugene, he’s probably good enough to play in Tucson.
I like Oregon to cover the 28.5 against Arizona. Lines like this always worry me though as it seems too small and hasn’t really moved.
And, you always worry about the backdoor cover in games like this, but you can easily subscribe to the thinking that Arizona won’t be able to score against Duck second or third stringers.
Who knows what to expect at quarterback for Arizona. If it’s me, I’m giving Jordan McCloud a chance as Gunner Cruz and Will Plummer have shown me enough to know they aren’t the answer.
One group I would caution, however, is the people expecting McCloud to set the rushing world on fire; as there is nothing in McCloud’s background to indicate he is going to run for big yards.
It looks like running back Michael Wiley is out of the dog house as Coach Fisch stated that he and Drake Anderson will share the majority of the backfield snaps.
Defensively, it will be interesting to see how the Cats perform. Oregon Head Coach Mario Cristobal wasn’t dispensing fake praise when he said it’s difficult to prepare for Don Brown’s defense. The problem for Arizona is that Oregon simply has much better players on offense than Arizona possesses on defense.
Brown is going to earn his money in this game.
Regarding Oregon, unless all-everything pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux is one hundred percent healthy the Ducks are crazy to play him. His services won’t be needed.
