Why The New Look Suns Will Be BETTER Than Expected After Preseason

Phoenix Suns, Devin Booker

The Phoenix Suns finished the 2025-26 preseason with a record of 3-1.

In that, they saw the foundation layer of the ways in which they’ll be desiring to play, be workshopped into a process.

Jordan Ott was pleased with what he saw both in performance and in numbers. Here are two (of many!) things I saw from preseason and felt were noteworthy.

What is “tagging up” with the Suns

“Tagging Up” is something that I will certainly be diving more into over the coming weeks, but we’ve seen its effects and a return on investment in that through these foundational days — already.

The Devin Booker of it all

Seeing a shift back to actions and a blend of usage akin with the best versions of Devin Booker that we’ve seen to date, have returned as well – in particular as a screener.

Jordan Ott mentioned to me that we will likely see Booker doing a lot of different things throughout the season, and that part is intentional in their plans there.
