I just wanted to leave this here Craig because sometimes you gotta vent and not many look at this “ comment “ section.
I think, I wrote a column about it in the Bloomington-Herald Tribune and got into some trouble for it.
My sport, distance running and track and field gets no respect.
I can understand that, but have you ever noticed that everybody uses my sport to make money?
“ Run for Cancer”, Walk for suicide prevention “, “ run for this, run for that charity.
The same method too.
“ Registration “ “ teams” a start finish line.
Pat Tillman was an American hero but when it came time to honor his memory, they chose my sport as the platform not a football game, not a flag tournament, Tillman RUN.
As soon as I read about that suicide walk, I listened to Javier Gutierrez being interviewed about the new arena and he mentioned announcing something when they reached “ the finish line”
I realized then the profound influence that my sport, the oldest sport in the world has on everyone, whether they know it or not.
I got in trouble once back home writing that all charities and organizations not interested directly in our sport but using the platform ( our arena and rules) to make money should have to pay a percentage of that money to USA Track and Field ( USATF) as a fee.
I really don’t mean it but it’s funny how many people use and understand the sport of road running and track and field.
Thank you as usual

Great piece as usual. I’m wondering if you plan on doing a Chayka/Tocchet retrospective at some point? Yotes fans really seem to hate the two but I always felt that they don’t quite deserve all that. Neither were perfect by any means (I think “average” might describe them best), but they did have young rosters with little to no depth competing for playoff spots multiple years in a row.

Just a thought. With the season approaching it might be better suited for next offseason, but I’d be curious to hear what you have to say!
